Right. Deep breath.
Half term is just about over. The snacks have been demolished, then replaced… then demolished again… Routines have gone completely out the window, and suddenly… it’s time to be organised again.
So. Are we ready?
If you haven’t already done so:
Uniforms need finding.
Then washing.
Then realising something doesn’t fit anymore.
Then panic ordering or a last-minute supermarket dash.
Shoes need checking.
PE kits need locating (where do they even go?).
School bags need emptying of mysterious crumbs, letters from three weeks ago, and at least one questionable object.
And then there’s the lunchboxes.
Clean them. Find the lids. Accept that one is just… gone.
There’s something about that last weekend before school goes back that always feels the same.
A mix of “right, let’s get it together” and “how has this come around so quickly?”
If your kids are school age, you might be quietly looking forward to a bit of routine returning. Maybe even a moment of peace. A hot cup of tea that stays hot. A room that stays tidy for more than six minutes.
Enjoy it. You’ve earned it.
And if, like me, you’ve got a children under four…
There is no peaceful reset.
There is no quiet house.
There is only… slightly fewer children during the day.
Godspeed.
But in all seriousness, whether you’re sending them back to school or still firmly in the toddler trenches, you’ve made it through another half term.
That counts.
🍓 Strawberry Reporter says:
“Somewhere out there, a PE kit is still missing. And it’s judging you.”
