Volunteers Wanted for New Tiptree Speed Watch Group

Residents in Tiptree are being invited to take a more active role in road safety, as a new Community Speed Watch group launches in the village.

Supported by Tiptree Parish Council, the initiative aims to monitor vehicle speeds in local areas and raise awareness among drivers about the importance of sticking to limits.

The scheme relies on volunteers from the community, with no prior experience required. Full training is provided, and sessions are carried out in small groups.

Community Speed Watch groups typically work alongside local authorities and police. While volunteers do not issue penalties, they record details of vehicles observed exceeding speed limits. These reports can then be used to inform warning letters and, in some cases, further enforcement.

The focus is as much about education as it is enforcement. The visible presence of volunteers often encourages drivers to slow down, particularly in residential areas where concerns around speeding are frequently raised.

For Tiptree, where ongoing conversations around road safety, traffic flow and village growth continue, the scheme offers a practical way for residents to get involved.

Those taking part will be helping to:

Promote safer driving habits
Support pedestrian and child safety
Contribute to a wider community effort to improve local roads
