A newly created sensory garden in Promenade Park has been significantly damaged, according to Maldon District Council.
The council says plants were pulled out overnight, causing what it describes as “significant damage” to the space.
Part of a wider pattern
The incident follows a number of recent vandalism reports in the park, including:
- Damage to the table tennis area
- Issues affecting lighting bollards
- Instances of graffiti
Officials say the combined damage has cost thousands of pounds.
Calls for information
Despite regular patrols by council teams and police, those responsible have not yet been identified.
The council is now asking members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist enquiries.
CCTV plans underway
In response, Maldon District Council has confirmed it is:
- Reviewing locations for additional CCTV cameras
- Taking steps to better protect public spaces
A spokesperson added that action is needed, stating: “enough is enough.”
🍓 Strawberry Reporter says:
Trashing a sensory garden is a special kind of low. If you’ve got that much energy, maybe try… literally anything else.
