New indoor climbing and soft play centre set to open in Colchester

Colchester City Council has confirmed that a new indoor climbing and soft play centre at the Northern Gateway is set to open next month.

The facility, operated by Clip ‘n Climb & Soft Play Colchester, is expected to welcome its first visitors on Saturday 25 April.

What’s planned

According to information shared by the council, the venue will include:

  • 22 indoor climbing challenges, designed for a range of abilities
  • Routes suitable for both beginners and more experienced climbers
  • A three-level soft play area for children under 10

Images released alongside the announcement show equipment now arriving on site, with installation currently underway.

Part of wider Northern Gateway development

The new centre forms part of the wider leisure and business development at Colchester’s Northern Gateway, which has been expanding in recent years with a focus on retail, sport and family-friendly activities.

The council says the addition is intended to provide more local leisure options for residents, particularly families looking for activities closer to home.

What we know – and what we don’t yet

While an opening date has been announced, booking details and pricing have not yet been confirmed publicly. The council has indicated that bookings will open soon.

As with many new leisure venues, opening timelines can depend on final installation and safety checks, though progress on site appears to be well underway.

🍓 Strawberry Reporter says:
This is very on-brand for Northern Gateway – more “stay local” entertainment. The real test will be pricing and availability… especially during weekends and school holidays 👀
