Tiptree Marmalade Beaten by Supermarket Brand – Fruit Newsroom in Absolute Disarray

There are some things you expect to see in the news.

Roadworks. Weather. The occasional rogue bin.

But Tiptree marmalade being beaten by a supermarket own-brand?

That one’s caused… a reaction.

What happened

A recent taste test by consumer group Which? has named Morrisons’ own-brand marmalade as the UK’s favourite – scoring 75% with tasters.

Tiptree’s “Tawny” marmalade came in lower, with a score of 64%.

Yes. We checked twice.

For those outside the area, this might not seem like a big deal.

But here in Tiptree, where the jam factory has been part of village life for generations, it’s… noticeable.

🍇 Grapevine

“I’m just saying… who were these people?”
“Because I’ve got questions.”

Grapevine has reportedly spent most of the morning “looking into it”, which appears to involve asking everyone he knows if they agree with the results.

So far, the answer is no.

🍊 Clementine Critic

“A 64%? For Tiptree?”
“That feels… incorrect.”

Clem has requested to conduct her own independent review, adding:

“I will be taking this very seriously.”

She has already purchased bread and butter.

🍏 Avery

“It’s okay to feel upset when something familiar is challenged.”
“However, it’s also important to remember… it is marmalade.”

Avery then quietly made herself a cup of tea and declined further comment.

🫐 Blueberry Pundit

“We’re seeing a shift here.”
“People are looking for value… but at what cost?”

He later described the situation as “one to watch”, before returning to his biscuit.

🍓 Strawberry Reporter

“I’m not overreacting.”
“I just think we need to look at the data again.”

He has since opened a new document titled “Marmalade Review: A Closer Look” and is considering next steps.

🔮 Rowan Root

“The jars were always going to turn.”
“This was decided long before the tasting.”

Rowan then declined to elaborate, but did suggest “keeping a third eye on things”.

Of course, taste tests are subjective, and loyalty to Tiptree runs deep.

But if nothing else, this has sparked one of the more passionate debates the newsroom has seen in a while.

And possibly a group tasting session.

👉 What do you think — are you sticking with Tiptree, or giving the supermarket version a go?
