Residents in Tiptree may start noticing more political activity in the coming weeks as campaigning begins ahead of the next Essex County Council elections.

The vote, scheduled for 7 May 2026, will determine who represents communities across the county on the council responsible for major services such as roads, education, libraries and social care.

For Tiptree residents, the relevant county division is Mersea and Tiptree, which is currently represented by Councillor John Jowers.

County councillors play a significant role in decisions affecting everyday life – from road maintenance and school places to funding for social care services.

Across the wider Colchester area, several county divisions will be contested at the upcoming election. Each division elects one councillor to represent local residents at county level.

Although district and city councils deal with services such as bins, planning and housing, county councils handle many of the larger-scale services that affect daily life across Essex.
